Boynton Beach Pirate fest
Every year, Boynton Beach turns back the clock and for one weekend at the end of October, the city is overrun by pirates and mermaids. The Haunted Pirate fest and Mermaid Splash attracts old and young and for two days, swabbies raise the Jolly Roger and have fun with all things pirate. Mermaid and pirate characters thrill and enchant, sharing ghastly stories about their adventures. As always, Pirate Fest is free and open to all. Boynton Beach’s East Ocean Avenue transforms into Hobb’s Cove, a bustling port full of scallywags from the four corners of the globe. Don’t forget Merlandia, a mysterious oasis where the sirens of the sea lure you into the depths with their song at the Mermaid Lagoon. Pirate Fest features 12 stages of continuous live music, children’s activities, pirate stunt shows, and the enchanted market.

Bedners Farm Fresh Market is a family owned and operated Farmer's Market with a U Pick. They offer educational field trips, tractor rides, homemade ice cream, tiki hut rental and much more. There is no admission and you can wander the grounds freely.The UPick is great for families, walk through the fields, pick your own strawberries, peppers, and tomatoes. The experience of picking your own food is priceless. At various times of year there are special events like a pumpkin patch, live animals, fair and corn maze. There is always a lot to do there and vendors are out every weekend to sell their wares or food. The farm store itself has a great selection and very reasonable prices.

Located on Jog Road in nearby Delray Beach, the Wakodahatchee Wetlands comprises nearly 50 acres of naturally restored public utility land and is free to visit year-round. The best way to see the park’s wetlands and animals is via the raised boardwalk that winds nearly a mile between open water pond areas and islands with shrubs that encourage nesting and roosting. The boardwalk has interpretive signage as well as gazebos with benches for some resting along the way. This site is part of the South section of the Great Florida Birding Trail and offers many opportunities to observe birds in their natural habitats. Over 178 bird species have been identified there, along with turtles, alligators, rabbits, fish, frogs and raccoons.

Located a little South of the city, Gumbo Limbo Nature Center offers a variety of programs and activities, most of them led by naturalists and biologists, who make it entertaining for adults and children alike. The facility lies on the inland side of a barrier island between the ocean and Florida’s Intracoastal Waterway making it perfect for paddle boarding, nature walks, animal feedings, and viewing the sea turtle rehabilitation center that is staffed mainly by students and faculty from nearby Florida Atlantic University. Last year, more than 200,000 visitors passed through to enjoy a walk on the boardwalk, count the thousands of tropical fish in the aquariums, relax in the butterfly garden, or check on the patients in the sea turtle rehabilitation facility. Gumbo Limbo’s 20 acres provide refuge to many varieties of plants and animals - some rare or endangered. It also represents a commitment to protect the natural resources of the area.
