Doan was an historian and educator who devoted his life to preserving the history of this area with his collection of pottery, paintings and other artifacts from Native Americans and early settlers. The Herbert D. Doan Midland County History Center opened its doors in 2008 as a museum dedicated to this man's legacy after he passed away at the age of 97 years old on December 25th 2006.
